In case you haven’t noticed, The Muppets are back again. The cast of colorful characters returned to the big screen in 2011 and it was as if they had never left the cinematic stage. The film was such a success that Disney decided it was good enough for a repeat. James Bobin returns to direct the sequel titled The Muppets… Again, with every one of your favorite Muppets returning, including Walter.
The film has already started production, so to celebrate we are getting our first images of The Muppets…Again and Ricky Gervais in action, so to speak. Hit the jump to see the new image.
Jason Segel and Amy Adams won’t be returning in any sort of capacity. But it’s not like a comedic presence will be missed because in addition to Gervais, Tina Fey, Ty Burrell, and Ray Liotta will all star in the film.
We are also getting a better idea of the plot of the film. It’s been confirmed that the film will be a caper of some sort, but we didn’t know what exactly that would entail. Now, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kermit says that there is a doppelganger roaming around ruining his reputation. Here’s the exact quote:
The idea of this film is that our gang is on this global tour, and we’re selling out these grand theaters all over Europe””in Berlin, Madrid, London””but we sort of get into a little bit of trouble when we run across my doppelganger. He’s the world’s number one criminal, Constantine, and he happens to look an awful lot like me. I won’t tell you any more than that, but let’s just say mayhem ensues.
Gervais provides one of the first images of the film, which we tweeted out to his fans. The imagine has me picturing him as some swindler in a large coat offering the best counterfeit Muppets money can buy. He is playing Constantine’s number two, so maybe there is some truth to that. The other photo is of the Muppet gang with what looks like Bobin reporting Muppet activity to the authorities. Fey will play a Russian GULAG officer, Burrell will be an inept Interpol agent, and Liotta’s role has yet to be announced.
