When it comes to making lurid, heart-pounding thrillers that pull absolutely no punches, there are few that can contend with the Australians and come out mostly unscathed and without twenty beers in their system. Anyone who has seen Patrick, Road Games, and Wolf Creek and loved them would probably agree.
Produced in collaboration with the Collective and the horror website BloodyDisgusting.com, Crawl is the latest suspense thriller to emerge from Down Under and cut a swath of terror through the film festival circuit. The movie is set to debut on DVD next month and a trailer for the film has been released.
You can check out the trailer as well as the DVD cover art below.
Georgina Haig, most recently seen on the Fox sci-fi series Fringe as Henrietta Bishop, plays a small town waitress who runs afoul of a Croatian hit man who has been hired by a sleazy bar owner to take care of some dirty business for him. Suffice to say, paths get crossed and blood gets spilled.
Crawl has been compared endlessly to just about every thriller ever made by Coen Brothers but it remains to be seen if it truly is as good as movies like Blood Simple and No Country for Old Men. At least it has Lynda Stoner, who co-starred in one of the greatest Australian exploitation flicks of them, Brian Trenchard-Smith’s utterly deranged Turkey Shoot, has a supporting role. That alone might warrant a viewing of Crawl in my book.
Crawl will debut on DVD on February 26, 2013. Extra features will include behind the scenes interviews with the cast and an interview with director Paul China. The same day it will also be available for viewing on Amazon Instant Video and iTunes. For more information check out the film’s official website.
