The New Ghostbusters #1 ushers in a brand new era in professional paranormal elimination. Now, everyone know that they “Real” Ghostbusters are irreplaceable. So, how does the new team measure up? Let’s take a look…

Erik Burnham manages to take (mostly) all new characters and make them into a brand new team of Ghostbusters with the same spirit (no pun intended) of the old team. Yes, they are TOTALLY different than the old team, but they still have humor, heart, and most of all, a lot of fun. Burnham pulls some VERY cool surprises out of thin air, like how the NYC brass deal with this new group of Ghostbusters, what they are doing to find and rescue Ray, Peter, Egon, and Winston, and also how they deal with the Ghostbusters perpetual pain in the neck, Walter Peck. It’s new, bold, refreshing, and yet familiar.

Dan Schoening transitions flawlessly to this new cast – granted, he’s drawn all of them before, but there seems to be a little bit of new life into his pages. It’s a joy to see his take on two characters that we’ve seen before and he does a great job bringing the two brand new characters into the world of the Ghostbusters, where he makes them fit right in.

A great first issue, and a great comic in general. Also, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the Real Ghostbusters back-up at the end of the book. Burnham takes on double duties as writer and artist, and in two pages, starts off what I think will be a fantastic story. Grab this one, folks! It’s definitely worth it.
