Metallica James Hetfield

If you’re a Metallica fan, then you know that frontman James Hetfield is fond of using the word “Yeah” in his songs – it’s quite prominent in the band’s music. The yeahs are all over Metallica’s 1983 debut Kill ‘Em All and can be heard on songs throughout their career, including their ever-popular Black Album all the way through their latest release, the EP Beyond Magnetic. It’s there on tracks like “Enter Sandman,” “Wherever I May Roam,” “Fuel,” and “The Memory Remains,” and even on cover songs, like Budgie’s “Crash Course In Brain Surgery” as well as the 11-minute fucking awesome medley of Mercyful Fate songs, both available on Metallica’s 27-track album of covers, Garage Inc. Let’s face it, at this point, the Yeah’ing has become an artform and Hetfield is the master.

Now, a clever bastard by the name of Kevin Conklin has compiled EVERY “Yeah” ever recorded by Metallica into one mega-awesome audio supercut. Check out the audio here below; it’s 3:16 minutes of pure “yeah-yeah” goodness.

Iron Man 3 Header

With big budget movies comes some big budget product placement. Sony Pictures has a huge habit of placing Sony computers, laptops, and phones across their film board. But Wreck-It Ralph spread the love with not only video games titles, but things like Subway and Nesquik. Now for Marvel’s latest film, Iron Man 3, you can expect to see some product placement for Audi, and another big tech brand, TCL.

Watch the latest video for Iron Man 3 here below featuring the TCL brand name.

SXSW 2013 Review: Ryan White’s ‘Good Ol’ Freda’

Good Ol' Freda and Paul

Good Ol’ Freda
Director: Ryan White
Cinematographer: Austin Hargrave
Editor: Helen Kearns

On their 1963 Christmas record, The Beatles give thanks to “Good Ol’ Freda!” in Liverpool, their devoted secretary and friend. Directed by Ryan White, Good Ol’ Freda is a documentary about Freda Kelly, who was just a shy Liverpudlian teenager when she was asked to work for a local band hoping to make it big.

The Beatles were together for 10 years, but Freda worked for them for 11. She had no idea how far the band would go, but she had faith in The Beatles from the beginning, and they had faith in her. Many people came and went as they sky-rocketed to international stardom, but Freda remained a staple of the inner-circle because of her unfaltering loyalty and dedication. As the band’s devoted secretary and confidant, Freda was witness to the evolution of the greatest band in history.

Notes From An Early ‘Blade Runner’ Screening Reveal Studio Executives Hated The Film
space
BAADASSSSS!   |

“This movie gets worse every screening.”

It has been over thirty years since Ridley Scott‘s noirish sci-fi masterpiece Blade Runner was released and began its long journey to enduring cult classic status following an unexceptional theatrical run. Three days ago someone posted to Reddit a scan of notes made by executives of financier Tandem Productions following an early screening of the film on January 21, 1981 – about a year-and-a-half before it premiered on movie screens across America. These notes reveal the suits’ confusion and derision over several creative aspects of the movie, from the editing to music placement to even the dialogue, that would mostly remain unchanged when a compromised cut featuring clarifying narration and a happier ending opened the next year.

You can check the original notes out here below.

It is not a secret to anyone familiar with the checkered production history of Blade Runner that the movie, while aesthetically groundbreaking, was a major creative headache and a source of much consternation to its financial overseers. Despite the presence of Scott on directing duties and Harrison Ford in the star role that would come to be known as one of the best of his career, the film’s plot and character complexities and lack of thrilling action set pieces gave it only modest commercial potential at the box office. The massive amounts of gorgeously-shot footage would undergo a near-endless series of edits and test screenings in order to hone it into a cut that everyone would be confident could become a profitable hit while maintaining its integrity.
