Morgan Freeman, the legendary actor who can soon be seen starring alongside Tom Cruise in the sci-fi adventure flick Oblivion, has entered into final negotiations to join the cast of Transcendence.
Freeman joins star Johnny Depp, who will play a man who creates a computer program that develops an awareness. The movie also stars Paul Bettany, Kate Mara, and Rebecca Hall.
Transcendence marks the directorial debut for Wally Pfister, a cinematographer who has worked on almost all of Christopher Nolan‘s movies, beginning with Memento in 2000.
Speaking of Nolan, he will be one of the producers on the movie; a movie that is described as being in the same vein as Nolan’s Inception and Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Pfister won an Oscar for his work on Inception, and was nominated for his work on Batman Begins, The Prestige, and The Dark Knight. Other movies he’s worked as a cinematographer on include The Italian Job, Marley, and Moneyball.
The Alcon Entertainment production will begin filming in May, with a release through Warner Brothers scheduled for April 25, 2014.
