When WandaVision was first announced as a show that would appear only on Disney+, Disney’s exclusive streaming service, many wondered when and where the story following Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) would take place.
Well, we really can’t expect to get any answers from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, who was at San Diego Comic-Con to talk about the upcoming series. However, he did drop a few hints about the tone of the show and how it will fit into the MCU. More on all of this below.
Ryan Penagos, Vice President & Creative Executive of Marvel New Media tweeted out some interesting bits from that portion of the Marvel panel:
Yes, Lieutenant Trouble aka Monica Rambeau, who first appeared in Captain Marvel, will be making a return to the MCU. But since the series will take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, she will obviously be a lot older. This time, the character will be played by Teyonah Parris. Parris’s credits include the 2014 indie hit Dear White People – which is the inspiration for the Netflix show of the same name – Chi-Raq, and If Beale Street Could Talk.
Slashfilm was over at SDCC as well, and said that Feige described the show as “exciting and different and strange.” That last bit seems to be intentional, as Feige added that the show will tie into Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
This is a very exciting development, as it is the first time that we are hearing that one of these Disney+ series will have a link to an upcoming film. And with Marvel Studios in full control of these shows, we know that these links won’t be shoehorned in the way that early seasons of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. were linked to Phase 2 of the MCU.
