Marvel Studios’ Disney+ shows will be an extension of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, more so than what Marvel Television has been in the past. These shows will be directly connected to the MCU. Some might even lead into films, like WandaVision. The series will bring back Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany as Vision.
Based on what we’ve heard in the past, the series will have a ’50s vibe to it. At the time, it was unclear what that meant. However, while at the D23 Expo Kevin Feige and director Matt Shakman, as well as Olsen and Bettany, took to the stage to give attendees an idea of what to expect and share a few more surprises as well. Like the additions of Kat Dennings (Thor) and Randall Park (Ant-Man and the Wasp), both of whom will be reprising their respective roles as Darcy and Agent Jimmy Woo. More on the report below.
While there was no footage to be shown, attendees were treated to a clip that spliced together clips from The Dick Van Dyke Show and clips of Wanda and Vision in action or spending tender moments together. All of that ended with a voice over saying “That concludes our broadcast day.” Perhaps this is what Marvel was alluding to when they said there would be a ’50s vibe to it.
But there’s more. Olsen described it as a series that is half sitcom and half epic Marvel adventure. Bettany added that the writing is extraordinary. Sounds like an intriguing premise. But what makes it even more intriguing are the additions of Dennings and Park, both of whom never interacted with Wanda or Vision. How will they factor into the six-episode series?
Shakman, whose credits include It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, will bring a wacky and fun tone to the series, which won’t be anything like What If”¦?, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, or Loki. In fact, to add to the hilarity, Kathryn Hahn will be playing a “nosy neighbor.”
That’s all that was given to us so far.
WandaVision, which also stars Teyonah Parris as an older version of Monica Rambeau, is expected to debut on Disney+ in 2020.
