Back in May, LucasFilm and Disney began production on a CGI-animated series called Star Wars Rebels, which would take place between the events of the final prequel film, Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith, and the original Star Wars film, nearly two decades that have gone untapped in the Star Wars universe.
At Star Wars Celebration in Germany this weekend, LucasFilm revealed the logo (at top) for Star Wars Rebels, as well as concept art (see two pieces of concept art here below). According to series executive producer Dave Filoni, who was present at the convention, the designs were heavily influenced by original Star Wars concept artist Ralph McQuarrie.
The concept art shows Ghost, which will be the main character’s ship and play a big part in the series; another piece is of a TIE Fighter crash landing. The show’s logo uses the orange and black color scheme reminiscent of the flight suit colors of the Rebel pilots in the original Star Wars trilogy.
Now showing the Ghost, a new ship from the show, which will be central. Filoni says he wanted it to feel like a home, the way the Falcon did. They’re also working hard studying the original films, hoping it will match the look of classic Star Wars.
Of Ghost, Filoni also said he wanted it to feel like a home, the way the [Millennium] Falcon did, and hoped it will match the look of classic Star Wars.
Other concept art was shown of a Stormtrooper, an Imperial interior, a Star Destroyer, and an astromech and protocol droid, though that art has not been released online yet.
The series is set between the events of Episode III and IV — an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. It takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.
Star Wars Rebels will air on Disney XD starting Fall 2014.
