| Because, Awesome: How Big Is Your Spaceship?
Taxonomy posters have a long history in entertainment and education. They can range from a staid and serious presentation of the comparative anatomy of mammals for the college lecture hall to the free and breezy relationships between kinds of beer that are perfectly at home in the college dorm room. We recently spotted a new poster-sized graphic of “Size Comparison – Science Fiction spaceships” from artist Dirk Loechel that pretty much took our breath away. It covers ships from approximately 35 different popular science fiction universes from books, games, film, and television, including Star Wars, Star Trek, Farscape, and much more. They are all rendered in the same scale according to the best sources that Mr. Loechel could find. Click on the image below to go to the author’s web site and zoom in on the real thing.

Season 7 of Doctor Who was recently released on DVD and Blu-ray and one of the bonus features on the set is a minisode written by Neil Gaiman that features River and The Doctor. You can watch that minisode, titled “Rain Gods,” here below. Gaiman recently posted about “Rain Gods” on his Tumblr, explaining that it is derived from the cut “Planet of the Rain Gods” sequence that the author wrote as part of the episode “The Doctor’s Wife.” The lost sequence was then turned into a 3-page comic drawn by Mark Buckingham for the 2012 Doctor Who Brilliant Book and featured the Doctor and Amy and Rory. Then Gaiman rewrote the story to be about The Doctor and River and the minisode was created.

Combining Creepshow with Paranormal Activity, V/H/S is an anthology horror film, comprised of 5 stories and the bumper frame narrative that ties everything together, telling the tales via "found footage" format. The conceptualization is to take a step back and explore the realm of VHS tape, the domain in which horror dominated during the 1980’s, but is more a mish-mash of an assortment of mediums. Bridging each of the separate tales is an ongoing narrative that ties them together. A number of young men involved in varying criminal activities (some unbelievable) begin filming their escapades, and take on a high paying job to retrieve a VHS tape from a house. While there, they discover the corpse of an old man”¦ and hundreds of tapes. As they search and gather all of the tapes, some of the tapes get played, forming the anthological display of the stories.
