I was sad when the previous run of Peter David‘s X-Factor ended last month after a solid 8-year run, but I am happy now that Marvel has announced that they will be bringing the series back in 2014 under the new name of All-New X-Factor, and that David will return as the writer of the series. Joining him on art will be Carmine Di Giandomenico.
The new series will jump off of events set up at the end of the last run, with Polaris working with Serval Industries to lead a corporate-funded superhero team. Joining her will be Polaris’s half-brother and former X-Factor member Quicksilver, as well as Gambit, coming off his own recently canceled series. We’ll also see some other members on the team, although those haven’t been announced yet.
If I had to guess, some of those other teammates will be pulled from various X-Factor teams, but don’t expect Jamie Madrox the Multiple Man to make an appearance any time soon, judging from previous statements David has made. You never know though, David could have just been playing things close to the vest and we’ll all get a surprise when the series launches.
According to Peter David, the series will take a unique look at the idea of a corporation running a superhero team, with the members of the team being distrustful of their new masters at Serval Industries. The series will revolve around the team trying to help people, but will also examine whether Polaris and the rest of her crew can actually trust the company they work for. We’ve seen the mix of X-Men and the business world back in the early 2000s when the X-Corporation was introduced. I’m sure that David will have a unique take on the concept, and since I was already a fan of the previous run, it should come as no surprise that I’m excited for this one. I hope that readers who didn’t get into the last series will give this new one a shot, as X-Factor was always one of the hidden gems on the Marvel publishing schedule.
Here’s the first cover for the series which will be out sometime early 2014.
