The first Raid was such a punching good time that a sequel was quickly put into development. The Raid 2: Berandal is expected to be another action-packed film that is as subtle as the deadly weapons the characters carry.
With the film having finished principle photography, director Gareth Evans has been presenting a few clips to show audiences what they can be expecting from the sequel, and now the first trailer for The Raid 2 has appeared online. Hit the jump to check it out.
While details on plot have been kept under wraps, Evans has said that the film starts out two hours after the events of the first Raid. Our hero from the first film, Rama (Iko Uwais), is assigned to infiltrate a criminal syndicate in order to protect his family and to uncover the corruption in his own police force. Which is probably why we see the trailer open with him in a prison cell furiously punching an outline drawn on the wall.
This is an international trailer, but there is hardly any dialogue. Not to worry because they fill all that time with some intense action sequences. We even get to see the Hammer Girl that everyone was talking about at TIFF. Unlike the first Raid, where the entire film was contained in one building, the sequel looks to branch out into the city of Jakarta.
Evans sees The Raid as being a trilogy, so depending on its success, there could be a follow-up to this sequel.
Sony Pictures Classic has just picked up the distribution rights, but have not scheduled a release date. We’ll be sure to keep you posted when one is announced. Thanks to Twitch for posting the trailer.
