Aliens TV Sitcom Hosts From Dorks of Yore

Ever wonder what the 1986 sci-fi horror Aliens, the James Cameron-directed sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic Alien, would look like as a TV sitcom? Probably not! But now you are.

Dorks of Yore is a fairly new YouTube channel from MADtv star Pat Kilbane and In Living Color remake star Melissa McQueen. In collaboration with Escapist Magazine for a new comedy pilot, they created Hosts, the Aliens TV comedy.

You can check out the video below.

Another lengthy gameplay demo for Batman: Arkham Origins has been released by developer WB Games Montreal. We’ve already seen one 15-minute gameplay demo come out of the most recent E3, and now comes a 17-minute peek at what the game has to offer.

This new demo takes a look at the Batcave and how it will be a part of your game, the huge open-world map and how you can get around it, and also one mission that will see you needing to break into the Gotham City Police Department without drawing too much attention to yourself.

Movie Review: Electric Man

Electric Man movie posterElectric Man
Director: David Barras
Writers: David Barras & Scott MacKay
Starring: Toby Manley, Mark McKirdy and Jennifer Ewing

Electric Man is an independent Scottish flim by writer/director David Barras that deals with the pursuit of the rarest comic, ever. Rarer than Action Comics #1, it’s Electric Man #1, and people are willing to kill for it. That’s the premise, and sadly, that’s the most intriguing thing about this movie because from the first scene on, it flounders on its execution of that premise.

At first, I was convinced Deadhead Comics, where much of the action takes place, was a fake store; a rented space, poorly dressed to look like a comic shop. But I wanted to be sure, and much to my surprise, I was wrong. It’s a real store! In the movie, business sucks, and small wonder, as this is one of the dreariest comic shops I’ve ever seen. So immediately, comics are cast in a poor light. More of that, to come.

This summer, I had the distinct joy of discovering one of this year’s true gems of anime, The Eccentric Family. The production, directed by Masayuki Yoshihara, whose resume includes Angelic Layer, Dragonball-Z, and Ghost In the Shell-Stand Alone Complex among many others, ran live from July through September on Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation and was simulcast on Crunchyroll, where it now streams free for all users.

The Eccentric Family, or Uchoten Kazoku as it’s known by its Japanese title, takes place in modern day Kyoto and revolves around the trials and tribulations of the Shimogamo family, who are all tanuki, or raccoon dogs. Anyone who has seen Isao Takahata‘s film Tanuki War Pon-Poko knows that tanuki are shape-shifters and tricksters who have learned, somewhat reluctantly, to live among humankind. In this production, however, the tanuki are more than willing participants in society, although still somewhat cautious, and with good reason.

Blu-ray Review: Curse of ChuckyCurse of Chucky
DVD | Blu-ray
Director: Don Mancini
Screenwriter: Don Mancini
Cast: Brad Dourif, Fiona Dourif, Danielle Bisutti, A Martinez, Brennan Elliott
Universal Home Entertainment
Unrated | 97 Minutes
Release Date: October 8, 2013

Directed by Don Mancini, Curse of Chucky picks up four years after 2004’s Seed of Chucky. Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif) mysteriously arrives at the family home of paraplegic Nica (Fiona Dourif) and her mother, Sarah (Chantal Quesnelle).

Writing off the delivery of a creepy Good Guys doll as some sort of weird prank, Sarah tosses Chucky in the garbage. Later that night, Nica hears her mother screaming in pain, only to find her dead from an apparent self-inflicted stab wound as an inanimate Chucky watches from a chair nearby.

Nica, grieving over the gruesome, unexplained suicide of her mother, is visited by her sister Barb (Danielle Bisutti) and her family: husband, Ian (Brennan Elliott); daughter, Alice (Summer H. Howell); and live-in nanny, Jill (Maitland McConnell), to help settle their mother’s affairs.

Curse of Chucky is the sixth film in the Child’s Play franchise – a series of horror films featuring Chucky, a demonic doll possessed by the spirit of Charles Lee Ray (Dourif), a serial killer. If you’re unfamiliar with the series, the basic idea is that Chucky is an asshole. He’s a quick-witted, foul-mouthed doll with a little man complex. Here, he is resurrected once again to murder bisexual babysitters, insufferable sisters, and Catholic priests.
