Tonight, the UK will get the second episode of Season 3 of Sherlock, titled “The Sign of Three,” which sees John Watson (Martin Freeman) getting married to his love Mary Morstan (played by Freeman’s real-life love, actress Amanda Abbington). Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) is the best man and we all know how Sherlock behaves in social situations, so the show is hyping that the famous detective will face his greatest challenge — delivering the best man’s toast.
The episode will involve much more than the wedding, but for now, the BBC One has released several images from John and Mary’s wedding, which you can view here below.
From the photos, it does look like a lovely affair, although, there is the Sherlock element, plus whatever crime will occur to pull Sherlock and John into a dangerous situation.
Best sure also to check out the BBC trailer for the episode.
Here’s the official synopsis for the episode that’s posted on the PBS Masterpiece site:
Who leaves a wedding early? In The Sign of Three, it’s the best man, namely Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch, The Fifth Estate, Star Trek: Into Darkness). John Watson (Martin Freeman, The Hobbit, The Office UK) may live to regret offering the role to a man who didn’t realize he was John’s best friend, but more importantly, one of the guests at John’s wedding to Mary Morstan (Amanda Abbington, Mr. Selfridge) may not live to see the end of the day.
Too bad that Sherlock is unable to focus his tremendous powers of deduction on the murder that’s hatching right under his nose, but then the responsibilities of a best man are more diabolically exhausting than preventing a very clever killing. Written by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, award-winning series co-creators and producers of Doctor Who, and Doctor Who writer Steve Thompson, The Sign of Three presents a “night do” of a wedding to remember. (One episode; 120 minutes, TV-PG)
For the UK, the series finale, “His Last Vow,” will air on January 12, 2014. Once the season completes its run in the UK, the season premiere, titled “The Empty Hearse,” will debut on PBS Masterpiece in the U.S. on January 19, 2014 at 9:58pm ET; episode 2 airs on January 26, and the season finale on February 2, 2014.
