In the past several weeks, we’ve gotten a chance to see a plethora of promotional content surrounding the upcoming animated series Star Wars: Rebels from propaganda material supporting the Empire, to character introductions and even a first look at the inevitable toys supporting the show.
Now, we’re finally getting a chance to see what the show will actually look like via two 30-second teaser trailers dubbed “Ignite” and “Spark,” alluding to the beginning of the Rebellion’s resistance against the Empire. You can check out both videos below.
Amongst the new footage, which focuses almost exclusively on the main hero, Ezra, are several nods that will help tie Rebels more to the universe seen in Episodes IV – VI than Episodes I – III. At the beginning of the “Ignite” clip you’ll hear the Imperial March made legendary in the Empire Strikes Back, several space fight scenes that look like they were directly pulled from A New Hope, and of course the unmistakable sound of a TIE fighter flying by.
Star Wars: Rebels takes place between Star Wars: Episode III and IV as the Empire tightens its grip on the galaxy and a rebellion begins to form. The series, executive produced by Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, and Greg Weisman, is scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel and will be followed by a series on Disney XD.
The animation doesn’t look fully rendered at the moment, and will probably get some additional spit and polish before Star Wars: Rebels airs later this year. For now though, it is a good indication of where the show is headed.
