True Detective is making some serious waves. Already a hit amongst the TV community, many have said it is one of the best new shows of 2014. Cary Joji Fukunaga has directed all eight of episodes of HBO’s police drama, with six having already aired, and two more coming.
But as much as of a thrill ride True Detective has been – check out this one-shot take to see what I am talking about – the show will be without Fukunaga next season. While Fukunaga will stay on True Detective as an executive producer, the director will move on to network TV for a new drama. Hit the jump to learn more.
Deadline reports that Fukunaga has just sold a show pitch to Fox, “set in a contemporary wartime context” and written by Nicole Riegel. Now, the report doesn’t say if he will direct any of the episodes or stay on in a producer capacity, but it should be interesting to see how me makes the jump from premium cable to network television. With shows like The Following and Hannibal pushing the limits on what is shown on network TV, I think Fukunaga’s show should do fine, assuming they will also be pushing the limits.
Fukunaga has Beast of No Nation next on his list. The film stars Idris Elba in drama about child soldiers in Ghana. Other projects include an adaptation of Stephen King’s It, and Noble Assassin.

Oh his “IT” might just be better than the one that thoroughly scared the shit out of me since childhood. I’ll look forward to that one massively.
