Fast and Furious 9 seemed to be put on the back burner for quite some time. Bond 25 is expected to start production very soon. And everyone and their mother seems to be signing on to be a part of Dune. While these three films couldn’t be any more different, they have one thing in common. They all finally have release dates.
Fast and Furious 9 is shifting from its initial April 2020 date and driving towards May 2020, which is giving Bond 25 a reason to take Fast and Furious 9‘s previous April 2020 date. Meanwhile, Dune will be hitting theaters in November 2020. More on all of this below.
The Wrap says Fast and Furious 9 will be sharing May 22, 2020 with Kong vs. Godzilla. With two powerhouse blockbusters opening on the same weekend, it seems very likely that one of them will change their release date eventually. Paramount’s The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge also opens on that date.
Justin Lin, who helmed four of the Fast and Furious films, is attached to direct the ninth installment of the franchise. Jordana Brewster is reportedly returning to reprise her role as Mia Toretto.
We do know that Dwayne Johnson might not be returning for the ninth film, but he will appear as Hobbs in his own spinoff and says he is open to coming back in Fast and Furious 10. All of this comes on the heels of the very public feud between himself and Vin Diesel. Although, they are said to have settled their disagreements. Whether or not that is true remains to be seen. No word yet on when they could start production.
As for Bond 25, The Wrap says the film will be pushed back from its February 2020 release by two months and will take Fast and Furious 9‘s previous April 8, 2020 release date. The film will mark the end of Daniel Craig’s career as the iconic 007. True Detective‘s Cary Joji Fukunaga will direct the 25th installment of the James Bond franchise. Filming is set to begin on March 4, 2019. Ralph Fiennes, Lea Seydoux, Naomie Harris, and Ben Whishaw are all expected to return to reprise their respective roles.
Finally, Variety says, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune will open in theaters on November 20, 2020. The film centers on the battle for control of the desert planet Arrakis, with Timothee Chalamet playing Paul Atreides. It also stars Javier Bardem, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, and Zendaya. Production is set to begin later this spring in Budapest and Jordan.
