It’s clear that Melissa McCarthy is the reigning queen of physical comedy these days, and frankly, she deserves the title. With big-screen comedies like Bridesmaids, Identity Theft, and last year’s buddy cop flick The Heat under her belt, the actress is now going on a road trip with her Grandma (Susan Sarandon) in Tammy.
Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for the upcoming comedy. Watch it here below.
Lest you think the road-trip-with-Grandma premise means McCarthy has gone soft, well, the clips in the trailer, which opens with the title character’s humorous attempted robbery of a fast-food joint, will prove otherwise.
Tammy, which also stars Allison Janney, Gary Cole, Mark Duplass, Dan Aykroyd, Kathy Bates, Toni Collette, and Nat Faxon, will be released in theaters on July 2, 2014.
Tammy (Melissa McCarthy) is having a bad day. She’s totaled her clunker car, gotten fired from her thankless job at a greasy burger joint, and instead of finding comfort at home, finds her husband getting comfortable with the neighbor in her own house. It’s time to take her boom box and book it. The bad news is she’s broke and without wheels. The worse news is her grandma, Pearl (Susan Sarandon), is her only option””with a car, cash, and an itch to see Niagara Falls. Not exactly the escape Tammy had in mind. But on the road, with grandma riding shotgun, it may be just what Tammy needs.
