Not long after it was reported that Marvel Studios had a shortlist of directors to helm Ant-Man came another report that one of the people on the list was now in talks with the studio. The studio had three directors in mind, Rawson Thurber, Adam McKay, and Ruben Fleischer. Of the three it appears that Marvel is talking to McKay.

According to AICN, Marvel has extended an offer to McKay, but it has yet to be signed. The Wrap also confirms the news of such an offer being on the table.
McKay isn’t an odd choice considering the script and source material. For one thing, McKay has worked with Ant-Man headliner Paul Rudd, who appeared in both Anchorman films, so the two already have a working relationship. Another thing to consider is that McKay has dipped his toe in action comedies like Fleischer has. When it comes to an action comedy directed by McKay, The Other Guys is the first thing that comes to mind. And what makes McKay the top choice is the fact that he was Disney/Marvel’s only choice. Both reports say that the studio never conducted negotiations with either Thurber or Fleischer. However, the two remain an option should McKay decide not to direct the film. But with only a few weeks left before production begins, I believe that Marvel may sign McKay as soon as possible.
While realizing the visuals effects in such a short time may be a concern, AICN says that McKay would only need to worry about the Ant-Man‘s story and characters. It is believed that Rudd was actually the one who lobbied for McKay to do the job when Edgar Wright left over issues with the script rewrites.
So what do you think? Is Adam McKay the right man for the job?
Ant-Man opens in theaters on July 17, 2015.
