Better Call Saul

AMC’s Breaking Bad may be over, but its legacy will live on through its spinoff, Better Call Saul. Bob Odenkirk will return to play the sleazy lawyer with a silver tongue. Production is already underway in Albuquerque, New Mexico. But there seems to be a minor problem.

The original plan was to release the pilot episode later this year. The network also ordered a full season well before anything was shown. However, the release has experienced a few delays forcing the date to be pushed from 2014 to 2015. On the other hand, AMC has already renewed the series for a second season.

THR first reported on the news. The first 10-episode season was originally slated for a November premiere, but that isn’t happening any longer. However, AMC has full confidence in their spinoff drama, and not only have they renewed it for a second season, but it will have even more episodes than its predecessor.

Michael Kean and Jonathan Banks will star alongside Odenkirk. Aaron Paul is also expected to return, with Bryan Cranston joining the cast for occasional guest spots.

Here’s what AMC President Charlie Collie had to say about the delay and series renewal:

“Production on Better Call Saul is underway, and we could not be more proud of nor more excited about the work to date. We join the fans in eager anticipation for this series, and today we happily confirm that our initial Saul order is for two seasons and a total of 23 episodes,” said AMC president Charlie Collier. “When introducing any series, especially one with the DNA of Breaking Bad, there are countless factors to consider in making sure the show gets the launch it deserves. We have a strong history with Vince, Peter, Bob, the studio and so many involved with this production; we are enjoying the process on Saul and all share a focus on making it a true television event. No half measures.”

As the trade reports, since Better Call Saul is being delayed, the move will leave AMC without a single new series debut after Turn and Halt and Catch Fire‘s tepid premiere. Neither series have been confirmed for a renewal.

While it looks like we will have to be more patient, AMC has released the first photo from Better Call Saul. Yes, its a production photo, but at least it’s something that whets our Breaking Bad appetite.
