Your TV fix is here. Have you been feeling sad that some of your favorite television shows are off until the fall, or God forbid, the winter? No need to fret; a number of new and returning series arrive this month.
Check out this TV preview of Sci-Fi/Fantasy shows arriving in July and see if any catch your eye! Descriptions below come from the respective television stations.
1. July 6th – Witches of East End (Returning/Season 2) – Lifetime:
“This season, with the portal to Asgard open, what comes through will forever change the lives of the Beauchamps. Darkness surrounds East End as a new stranger (Cooke) arrives. Joanna is still weak with poison in her blood as the Beauchamps search desperately for a cure. With the death of Penelope (Virginia Madsen), Killian (DiTomasso) and Dash’s (Winter) warlock powers return.”
2. July 9th – Extant (New/Starring Halle Berry) – CBS:
“In a thrilling drama, Berry will play an astronaut who returns home from a year-long solo mission in space and tries to reconnect with her husband and son in their everyday life. Her experiences in space and home lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history.”
3. July 11th – Hemlock Grove (Returning/Season 2) – Netflix:
“The mangled body of a teenage girl is discovered outside a rusted Pennsylvania steel town, where every resident harbors a dark secret. Suspicions and accusations mount as a manhunt for the killer intensifies, even as evidence mounts that the suspect is not a man at all.”
4. July 11th – The Almighty Johnsons, (New) – SyFy:
“The action-packed comedy drama The Almighty Johnsons follows the Johnson boys, four typical fun-loving guys – who have inherited the power of Norse Gods. But these four brothers are no flashy superheroes. Everyday Gods have everyday struggles – searching for love, overcoming sibling rivalry and fulfilling their God-like destiny – while still enjoying a few beers with their friends.”
5. July 13 – The Strain – (New) – FX:
“The Strain is a high concept thriller that tells the story of ‘Dr. Ephraim Goodweather,’ the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.”
6. July 31st – The Quest – (New) – ABC:
And for something completely different…a fantasy reality show!
“The Executive Producer of The Lord of the Rings has joined forces with the creators and producers of The Amazing Race to conjure a land of magic and malevolence, where mythical creatures lurk in the woods. For 12 lucky souls, a fantastic world will come alive in a unique competition series where players will engage in epic challenges.”
Whether starting with a brand new offering or binge-watching an existing show in order to catch up, at least one of these shows is bound to keep you busy and in air conditioning on the hot summer days of July! Enjoy!
The Almighty Johnson looks terrible as does the The Quest. i am super excited about the Strain though. I also will give Extant a try as well.

the almighty johnsons was terrific when it aired in new zealand but i fear it will be overly censored for US audiences too many boobs and swears and drugs, and that trailer is terrible

I have seen The Almighty Johnsons for 2 seasons and enjoyed it very much. I generally do not watch reality shows but The Quest looks like it may be one I will finally enjoy. I am also looking forward to The Strain as well as Extant.
