A new adaptation of Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada‘s ’90s comic Painkiller Jane is on the way, and a director for the project has been chosen. Directors, in fact.
The Twisted Twins, Jen Soska and Sylvia Soska, will direct the adaptation, which follows a cop who goes undercover and ends up almost dead. But instead of dying, she develops new abilities—regenerative abilities that allow her to take an insane amount of damage and heal quickly—and uses them to become the vigilante known as Painkiller Jane.
The Soska sisters are best known for their 2012 horror flick American Mary, and also directed 2009’s Dead Hooker in a Trunk. Their upcoming movies include See No Evil 2, a segment of ABCs of Death 2, Vendetta, and XX. While their star quickly rises in the realms of horror, Painkiller Jane gives them the opportunity to bring their twisted taste to other arenas.
The comic has been adapted in the past in the form of both a made-for-TV movie and a series. This latest adaptation is being developed as an “indie action thriller.”
Painkiller Jane is being produced by Palmiotti through his Paperfilms, and Stephen L’Heureux through Solipsist Films.
