Twisted Twins Jen and Sylvia Soska Want to Direct Deadpool movie

After the departure of Deadpool director Tim Miller, 20th Century Fox and star Ryan Reynolds have been on the hunt for a new director for Deadpool 2. The only director that’s been mentioned as a possibility so far has been David Leitch (John Wick).

One of the issues with Hollywood today is that not enough women are being hired to make bigger movies, especially comic book movies. And as it turns out, there’s a solution readily available to solve both of these things. Two of them, in fact! Sibling duo Jen Soska and Sylvia Soska, better known to their fans as the Twisted Twins, who are itching to get behind the camera for a Deadpool flick.

The Soska sisters are best known for their work in the horror genre. They kicked things off with the grindhouse inspired Dead Hooker in a Trunk in 2009. They followed that up with the fan favorite 2012 underground surgery horror American Mary. That led to the opportunity to direct one of the segments in the horror anthology ABCs of Death 2, titled “T is for Torture Porn,” and the sequel to See No Evil in 2014. Their most recent feature was outside the horror genre, the action-drama Vendetta. On top of that, they’ve worked on numerous shorts over the years and host the horror game show Hellevator on GSN.

But they’re also big comic book fans, and have even done some work in comics recently including with Marvel. They made their debut on Marvel’s Secret Wars Journal #5 in 2015. After that they crowdfunded their own original grindhouse-inspired graphic novel Kill-Crazy Nymphos Attack!, which they collaborated on with Rob Dumo and Daniel Way, who had a 63-issue run on Deadpool from 2008 to 2012. In April it was announced that they would again be working with Marvel on Guardians of Infinity #8 featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The sisters had a chat with Philly.com’s geek section, sharing their desire to direct. They’ve submitted their various works to both Fox and Reynolds’ company, and despite knowing there’s a bunch of talented people lined up hoping to land the job, they’re hoping they catch someone’s eye.

They actually tried to get in on the first Deadpool, but things didn’t work out, though many of the people they often work with did help make the movie:

“Jen and I have been hardcore Deadpool fans for years. We wanted to direct the first film, but couldn’t get a meeting to save our lives. We read that script and wanted so badly to be a part it. Didn’t happen. Even though they shot in our hometown with a lot of our crew.

The guy who shoots Deadpool up the ass on the bridge? That’s our stunt coordinator-Kimani Smith from See No Evil 2 and Vendetta. The gentleman sitting beside Deadpool in the car is Nicholas Baric-who we worked with on Dead Hooker In A Trunk. He played one of the cops we tied up. The gentleman who played Bob is our stunt coordinator from American Mary. We also killed him in Vendetta.”

And while they’d love to take on Deadpool 2, especially now that the director’s chair is empty and waiting, they’d be just as excited to direct Deadpool 3—which we now know Fox is already planning, even this far ahead of the first sequel—or Deadpool 4 if it ever happens:

“We won’t ever not be passionate about directing a Deadpool film. We’ve been Marvel fans since we were young children-had some success in film, television and comics-and we’ve written two stories for Marvel. Writing Deadpool for Marvel is pretty much a life goal and we really don’t mind putting in the time to prove ourselves.

Basically, I know there are a lot of other options out there for directors, but there are very few with the same passion for the character inside and out. It would be cool to have two sets of eyes and be like – ‘Hey, remember this comic with Cable? Maybe we can hint at some Cablepool for the hard core fans.”

I for one would absolutely be down for this, and I hope Fox and Reynolds at least get to consider the Soska sisters for the job. A little twisted in your sequel never hurts. Much.
