Next month marks the 20th anniversary of the premiere of Friends, the popular television series that starred Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, and David Schwimmer, and ran on NBC for 10 years.
On the sitcom, the friends were often seen hanging out at their local Manhattan coffee shop, Central Perk. While the shop was fictional, Warner Bros. is now partnering up with Eight O’Clock Coffee to re-create the Central Perk coffeehouse in New York City for a limited time.
Coming to downtown Manhattan this September will be the Central Perk coffeehouse in a pop-up location where visitors will get free coffee, as well as be able to take photos with the iconic orange couch and other signature props and a show-themed backdrop. There will also be daily giveaways, trivia contestants, and other various contests and merchandise, along with weekly performances — including ones with Phoebe’s signature tune “Smelly Cat” and other songs inspired by the quirky character’s musical style. James Michael Tyler, who played the bright-haired barista Gunther who was in love with Aniston’s Rachel, will also make special appearances.
The pop-up Central Perk coffee bar will be located at 199 Lafayette Street in downtown Manhattan starting Wednesday, September 17, 2014, and closing Saturday, October 18, 2014; the hours will be 8am to 8pm Monday through Friday, and 10am to 8pm Saturday and Sunday.
