Sometimes fiction can be a reflection of reality. Lately, national news anchors losing their jobs over accusations of sexual harassment have been making headlines. As such, it has become the basis for Apple TV+’s newest series The Morning Show, starring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Steve Carell. In it, Carell plays Mitch Kessler, a major news anchor who has been fired off from a national broadcast morning show, leaving his co-host Alex Levy (played by Aniston) to run the show on her own. But when Bradley Jackson, a new younger news reporter (played by Witherspoon), is chosen to be a co-anchor, Alex views the new addition as someone who could take her job. Soon, it becomes a battle of egos and doing whatever it takes to protect their standing or advance in the world of morning news television. Check out the full trailer here below.
While most of the news that we have seen has been about who has been fired and the coverups, we rarely get to see what happens behind the scenes following the fallout. Yes, the show will be a dramatization of that. In fact, we get to see a lot of what will happen between the building of Bradley’s career, Alex doing whatever it takes to protect her own job, and secret allegiances going on behind the scenes.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
What happens when the people you trust to tell the truth prove themselves to be dishonest? The Morning Show follows the free fall of an early morning newscast in the wake of a scandal, and its struggle to survive in an era when news arrives in the palm of your hand.
The Morning Show stars Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon, Emmy winner Jennifer Aniston and Golden Globe winner Steve Carell in a high-stakes drama that pulls back the curtain on the morning news.
The Morning Show will be among the first of the new shows that will be able to be streamed on Apple TV+, the tech giant’s newest venture. They already enter a very competitive streaming market which consists of Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and soon Disney+ and HBO Max. And this won’t be Apple TV+’s only show. There will be shows from Steven Spielberg, Oprah, J.J. Abrams, and many more.
Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw also star.
The Morning Show will come to the Apple TV app with an Apple TV+ subscription.
