The 10th season of Supernatural is about a month away, leaving plenty of time to catch up with the Winchester boys and grab the Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital HD release of Supernatural: The Complete Ninth Season, coming this week. This jam-packed Blu-ray not only has all 23 episodes with previously unaired scenes included in 8 of them, but also these delicious features listed here below.
-Set of featurettes that explore the entire Men of Letters compound, including the lab, the kitchen, and Room 7B, otherwise known as the dungeon.
-Three audio commentaries, including one for the backdoor pilot of “Bloodlines”, a possible Supernatural spin-off set in Chicago about warring supernatural families trying to control the city. Also included is “Mother’s Little Helper” and “Blade Runners”.
-A fan contest winner’s dream come true. Lucky Gina got to follow Misha Collins around with a camera in a Day in the Life of Supernatural, and it is totally spoofy, exactly what you would expect from these guys, including the Trixter (Richard Speight Jr.) with an unexpected job.
-The July, 2013 SDCC Supernatural panel speaking on what to expect from Season 9!
-The requisite gag reel: It’s always fun to watch your favorite actors break character, especially to crack up. Hell, Jimmy Fallon became successful on that very premise!
Spoilers Ahead!!!!
Season 9 is another Angel-palooza. After all the angels fall to Earth, Sam and Dean (Jared Padelecki and Jensen Ackles) are faced with unhappy, crazed, powerful beings, who form alliances and all seem to want Castiel (Misha Collins) dead. Dean makes a deal with Ezekial/Gadreel (Tahmoh Penikett) to inhabit Sam’s body in order to heal him from the Trials of God from the 8th season. Abaddon (Alaina Huffman) is back and out to control Hell while the Winchesters kidnap Crowley (Mark Sheppard), rendering him impotent. While Cass is off getting to know his humanity, Crowley sorta replaces him as the third man on the team, especially when Dean needs him to get Sam’s bodily roommate out, and former woman of letters Abaddon out of the world.
There is no bad episode in this season and it is a testament to Supernatural‘s longevity. Some fan faves return for an episode or two like The Ghostfacers (Travis Westers and AJ Buckley), Gabriel aka The Trickster, Charlie (Felicia Day), Kevin Tran’s mom (Lauren Tom), and lovable hunter Garth (DJ Quails). Right from the first episode we run into old friends Bobby (Jim Beaver) and Death (Julian Richings) in all his spooky glory.
Supernatural Season 10 premieres on Tuesday, October 7th on The CW.
