Darth Vader In The Death Star

Director J.J. Abrams has made it a hobby to leave little nods and hints in images and videos he’s posted on the Bad Robot Twitter feed, that may or may not indicate things we might see in Star Wars: Episode VII.

In one of the latest images posted—a simple handwritten note making a joke about the new watch Apple just announced recently—Star Wars fans will recognize a very familiar pattern in the background.

Check out the image below.

The pattern, as can be seen in the image of Darth Vader at the top of this post, is the same as (or at least very similar to) the pattern found inside the Death Star in earlier Star Wars movies.

Whether this means we might see a new Death Star in Episode VII or Abrams is simply having a little fun with a tip-of-the-hat reference remains to be seen. Death Stars, after all, have not had the best luck in the past and cost astronomical amounts of spacebucks to build.

Another recent handwritten note thanking those who participated in the Star Wars: Force For Change campaign, which resulted in over $5 million being donated, was sent out by the Bad Robot Twitter page, and featured a robotic hand many believe belongs to Luke Skywalker himself. Of course we already know that Mark Hamill is reprising his role as Luke in the upcoming movie, so that didn’t come with the question mark that this new one does.

So what do you think, will we see Death Star number three in Star Wars: Episode VII or perhaps another creation of the Empire from the expanded universe with a nostalgic interior decorator?

  1. That robotic hand belongs to a Sith Inquisitor who is half cyborg, and not to Luke Skywalker. …or, at least, that’s what’s being reported right now.
