However you may feel about Roberto Orci, the man is clearly in demand. He wrote the script for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and was attached to write subsequent sequels and spinoffs, until he dropped out and officially signed on to write and direct Star Trek 3. Then he became attached to be an executive producer for Power Rangers. But it seems that that too is one too many franchises for the man, as he is making Star Trek 3 his top priority, and dropping out of Power Rangers.
Deadline cites scheduling conflicts as the main reason why Orci is out as executive producer of the new Power Rangers movie. This seems to make a bit of sense considering how many more responsibilities he will have now that he is writing and directing Star Trek 3.
Though Orci is now out, nothing else about the Power Rangers movie has changed. Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are still writing the script, while Haim Saban, Brian Casentini, and Allison Shearmur are producing. No word yet on who will be directing the project, but the film will follow the same basic Power Rangers premise that has been used for the better part of 20 years: a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world.
So how do you feel about Orci dropping out? Who do you want to see direct a Power Rangers movie?
