The Walking Deadseason five doesn’t begin until this upcoming Sunday, but AMC is Christmas Eve anxious and has officially announced that they’ve ordered season six for next fall TV season.
There’s also a pilot for a potential spinoff series based in the same world but following different characters and storylines currently being made as well.
Of the announcement, AMC president Charlie Collier said:
“We could not be more excited for October 12th as we share new episodes of “˜The Walking Dead’ with fans around the globe. In advance of Sunday’s season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There’s plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort.”
The Walking Dead getting a new season is never a big shock—only an announcement that there won’t be a new season would be truly shocking at this point, given that the show is one of the most popular in TV history. And with AMC seemingly ready to run with the phenomenon for a long, long time, that announcement isn’t likely to come for quite a while.
