“Bond 24” now has an official title — Spectre
Director Sam Mendes revealed the title this morning live from Pinewood Studios in the UK. You can watch the video of the announcement here below, and also check out the new teaser poster.
Main cast members and their roles for Spectre, which hits theaters on November 6, 2015, were also revealed.
The movie will be filming at Pinewood Studios in London, as well as in Mexico City; Rome; Tangier & Erfoud, Morocco; and Sölden, Obertilliach, and Lake Altausee, Austria.
In the announcement, Mendes pointed out that if you know Bond history, then you can guess what the new title, Spectre, refers to. In the Bond universe, SPECTRE stands for SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion, and it’s a global terrorist organization led by the supervillain Ernst Stavro Blofeld (bald villain with white cat; basis for Dr. Evil in the Austin Powers spy parody films). While Christoph Waltz’ character was revealed as Oberhauser, many speculate that he’s actually playing Blofeld. The organization appeared on screen before in 1962’s Dr. No and you’ll note in the promo material that the new film’s title is all caps like the acronym.
