Say what you want about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but the film grossed $477 million worldwide and currently holds the number 12 spot on the top grossing films of 2014.
Of course with numbers like that, you knew Paramount was going to follow that up with a sequel. While it was first thought that Jonathan Liebesman, who directed the last film, would return to direct Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, it’s being reported that the studio is now in talks with Earth To Echo helmer David Green to direct the sequel. More after the jump.
Screenwriters Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec will return to pen the script, as well as executive produce.
The Wrap was the first to report on talks with Green.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was widely panned by critics who called the film an absolute tonal mess. Despite that, the film was still a hit, and it proved that it’s still a very lucrative franchise.
While it is still too early to reveal any plot details, film producers Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form confirmed to Collider that Bebop and Rocksteady, Shredder’s inept mutated henchman, will appear in the film. They also said they we’re trying to figure out how to fit Casey Jones into the film. No word yet on who may play the three characters.
The two were originally set to appear in the first film, but ended up being cut out of it.
Earth To Echo was Green’s directorial debut. Made on a $3 million budget, the film ended up grossing $45 million worldwide.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is slated for a June 3, 2016 release.

How did we go from something new age to 80’s again. I was hoping for new stuff, not the same old story lines again, and again, and again. I don’t mind remakes, but damn it, at least be original.
