Disney's Animated Marvel Movie Big Hero 6 #3

Welcome to the first edition of The Digital Wire of 2015! This week we’ve got some cool new release news for your perusing pleasure. The holiday rush is over and the Oscar race is well underway. What better way to show defiance in the face of a group of smug multimillionaires suffering from “affluenza” than to watch the kind of movies that would send the average Academy voter screaming out of the theater? I’ve still never seen The Artist!

Below you’ll find info on several future home video releases complete with technical specs, release dates, and links to pre-order at Amazon. We would greatly appreciate it if you use those links to order because a small percentage of each order helps keep this website running at max power. The cover art for certain titles has yet to be finalized.

Wolfcop

My prayers for a movie about cops that transform into werewolves has finally been answered. Or maybe I’m just losing my mind. The crazy, gory Canadian horror-action-comedy Wolfcop from director Lowell Dean will be released in the U.S. on Blu-ray and DVD from Image Entertainment on March 10, 2015. Extra features have yet to be announced. If you need further convincing to give this freaky flick a rent or purchase, check out our own Adam Frazier’s review from June here. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to resist.

The Usual Suspects

Another year, another reissue of The Usual Suspects on video. Just in time for its 20th anniversary, the twisty classic thriller that gave Bryan Singer a directing career and Kevin Spacey his first Oscar returns to Blu-ray from MGM Home Entertainment on January 27, 2015. After some investigating it has been confirmed that this release will contain none of the extra features created for the 2002 special edition DVD or anything new. The picture and sound quality will reportedly be the same as seen on previous discs. Booooooooo. MGM will also be re-releasing Dances with Wolves on Blu-ray for its 25th anniversary on January 13, 2015. No word on special features.

Sons of Anarchy

The seventh and final season of the hit FX series Sons of Anarchy comes to Blu-ray and DVD from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment on February 24, 2015. Bonus features will include:

Deleted Scenes
Gag Reel
Carpe Diem: The Final Season of Sons of Anarchy
Anarchy Legacy
Bikes of Sons of Anarchy: Motorcycles of Mayhem
SOA Tattoo Stories
Guests of Anarchy

Big Hero 6

The CGI-animated feature Big Hero 6, based on the Marvel Comics title of the same name, charmed holiday audiences and critics alike and is sure to be remembered for years to come. Walt Disney Home Entertainment will release the film on Blu-ray and DVD on February 24, 2015. Extra features will include the theatrical short Feast, deleted scenes, and more. Like Wreck-It Ralph I missed this one in theaters, so catching up with it on Blu-ray looks quite likely.

X-Men: Days of Future Past

When X-Men: Days of Future Past was released on DVD and Blu-ray recently, the extra features were lacking the lengthy deleted sequence where Rogue (Anna Paquin) played an important role in the proceedings. Over a year ago it was first announced that Paquin’s substantial part had been completely removed from the film, then a few months later just before the theatrical release, Rogue was suddenly back in the final cut. Except she wasn’t. She could only be barely glimpsed during the closing scenes in a cameo appearance.

Now, it looks like Paquin’s full performance will finally be restored to Future Past in the form of a long-rumored “Rogue Cut” that could hit stores in the summer of 2015, according to James Finn, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s executive vice president of marketing communications, who posted the news via Twitter. The Blu-ray for the new cut will not include the theatrical version or the bonus features from its first video release, but it will have some exclusive features (perhaps a commentary with director Bryan Singer?). This is not an official announcement, but this release has been brewing for a while, and with the next X-flick X-Men: Apocalypse looking at a May 2016 theatrical debut the “Rogue Cut” of Days of Future Past could be used to generate additional interest.

New Year's Evil

In a perfect world for fans of “Me Decade” blood horror, the oddball holiday slasher New Year’s Evil would have been released Blu-ray in time to ring in the real New Year’s Eve. Instead it will be released by Scream Factory on February 24, 2015. The 1980 cult horror favorite will be newly transferred in high-definition and feature a new commentary with director Emmett Alston, a retrospective documentary with new cast interviews, and the original theatrical trailer.
