Heroes Reborn

Recently, it was announced that Chuck star Zachary Levi would be one of the newcomers to Heroes Reborn, a 13-episode miniseries continuation of the NBC series Heroes. It was also made clear that some of the familiar faces from the show’s original 2006 to 2010 run would be popping up from time to time in the miniseries, including the only confirmed returning star so far, Jack Coleman, who plays Noah Bennett.

Now comes word of one star who will not be returning for the event. Star Trek star Zachary Quinto has revealed that he will not be reprising his role as Sylar, one of the primary antagonists (sometimes) from the original series. Continue reading to see why Quinto chose not to return.

Buzzfeed’s Kate Arthur was able to speak to Quinto at Sundance 2015, and asked about whether he would return as Sylar in Heroes Reborn or not.

He replied:

“No, I’m not going to go back. I talked to them about it, and Tim reached out to me when they decided they were going to do it. We had a great conversation. It was such a meaningful experience for me — I loved that job, I loved those people. … I just felt like I didn’t want to go back to it. … Tim was very, very understanding, Tim Kring. He was very understanding and supportive. I’m thrilled that they’re doing it, I’m thrilled that Jack Coleman is going back to it. And I know that they just cast Zach Levi, which is great, I mean, it’s a great thing to be a part of. I just felt like I need to cultivate other outlets for myself.”

Here’s Arthur’s post from Twitter:

As for whether this means that Quinto’s Sylar character will not be involved in Heroes Reborn at all now, or if they’ll just recast another actor in the role is not yet known.

If you’re excited about this new Heroes, would you rather see the Sylar character return played by a new actor, or would you rather they focus instead on a new villain?

  1. Every show needs a character you love to hate. Yes, would like to see him back.

  2. Sylar would never be the same without Quinto, but he’s the only character they really could recast with ease since Sylar has a shapeshifting ability, and I loved the character’s madness. I’d be ok with that, if they found the right person.
