We found out back in December that Mark Hamill would be reprising his decades-old role as the villainous Trickster in The CW’s current incarnation of The Flash.
Now the network has revealed the first look at Hamill in the series in a new promo video highlighting the show’s upcoming villains.
Check out the promo video here below.
The Flash is on a short hiatus right now, but returns to The CW on Tuesday March 17, 2015 at 8pm. The new trailer previews the next three new episodes — on March 17, “Out of Time” has Liam McIntyre‘s Weather Wizard freezing out Central City; on March 24, “Rogue Time” sees the return from earlier in the series of Wentworth Miller‘s Captain Cold along with his little sister Lisa Snart “Golden Glider” (Peyton List); and then on March 31, the moment we’ve all been waiting for, Mark Hamill returns for a new episode and he’s had 20 years to come up with the perfect trick.
Hamill’s Trickster first appeared on screen in the 1990 CBS television series The Flash for two episodes against John Wesley Shipp‘s Barry Allen/The Flash. In a nice tie-in, Shipp stars as the wrongly incarcerated father of the current Barry Allen/Flash, played by Grant Gustin.
Here’s some details about the next episode, via The CW:
Out of Time (Ep# 115)
LIAM MCINTYRE GUEST STARS AS THE WEATHER WIZARD; CISCO REALIZES DR. WELLS IS HIDING SOMETHING — Mark Mardon aka The Weather Wizard (guest star Liam McIntyre) appears in Central City intent on avenging his brother Clyde’s death, and sets his sights on Joe (Jesse L. Martin), who shot Clyde. When Mardon attacks Joe and Barry (Grant Gustin), Barry is able to super-speed them to safety but Mardon gets away. Barry warns Joe not to go after a meta-human alone but Joe doesn’t listen and ends up in grave danger. Meanwhile, Cisco (Carlos Valdes) looks into the night the team captured the Reverse Flash and realizes something doesn’t add up and begins to wonder whether Joe was right about Dr. Wells (Tom Cavanagh). Barry and Linda (guest star Malese Jow) end up on an awkward double date with Eddie (Rick Cosnett) and Iris (Candice Patton). Thor Freudenthal directed the episode written by Todd Helbing & Aaron Helbing (#115). Original airdate 3/17/2015.
Here’s the previously released description of Hamill’s Trickster return:
“Mark Hamill returns in a brand new interpretation of James Jesse (aka The Trickster), a role he originated on the 90″²s “˜Flash’ series. In this new iteration, The Trickster is an anarchist terrorist con man serving a life sentence in Iron Heights who helps Barry (Grant Gustin) and Det. West (Jesse L. Martin) to foil the city-wide attacks of a wannabe Trickster eagerly following in the original’s deadly footsteps. The episode will reunite him with John Wesley Shipp who went up against him as the original “˜Flash’ on the CBS version.”
I’m totally loving The Flash as it is, but the return of Hamill in any capacity is enough to get me very excited. Can’t wait for March 31st!
Hamill recently had a small role in last month’s Kingsman: The Secret Service, and of course makes his highly anticipated return to the Star Wars universe as Luke Skywalker at the end of the year in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
