He’s served hard prison time, kicked drug addiction, and become one of our last existing iconic action stars. What is Danny Trejo going to do now? Go into the restaurant business, that’s what.
Yes, friends, the star of the Machete movies and a prolific tough guy character actor with a filmography longer than your typical neighborhood street is opening his own taco joint in Los Angeles.
Trejo’s Tacos, which is occupying building space that ironically once belonged to a Taco Bell, has been in the works for years and should be opening soon. Construction was overseen by the Spacecraft firm and involved, according to Andy Hermann of LA Weekly, “adding desert landscaping and outdoor patios to the 1,000-square-foot space to pair with a sleek, modern exterior made of charcoal stucco and blackened steel.”
The exterior design of the restaurant is intended to invoke “a vibe somewhere between hip urban taqueria and biker bar” with black Venetian plaster, black leather upholstered seating, and custom black-and-blue tile murals. Patrons of Trejo’s Tacos can expect to enjoy a menu that serves Mexican cuisine, beer and wine. Here are some early artist renderings:
Last Friday, Trejo tweeted this photo that strongly indicates the establishment is getting very close to opening:
Trejo’s Tacos is projected to open later this Spring and will be located at 1048 South La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles. You can follow the restaurant’s progress via their Facebook page and Twitter feed. #BADASSTACOS
