Last week on Once Upon A Time, we were transported to Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) and Ursula’s (Merrin Dungey) past, and found that there was not a relationship between them as we, the audience, first thought. Hook had stolen her voice, but made a deal. He would finally gave her back her voice, if she let him know what they had in store for his Emma. Both fulfilled their end and she left, swimming off towards the horizon with her formerly estranged dad. Gold (Robert Carlyle) and the girls aged August (Eion Bailey) and then tortured him. Emma (Jennifer Morrison) was glad to see her old friend again. We were, too.
Once Upon A Time 4.16 “Best Laid Plans” review: Ursula may be gone, but the hunt for the author is still on as Gold, Cruella (Victoria Smurfit), and Malificent (Kristin Bauer van Straten) use Regina (Lana Parilla) to grab the page with the door from the book. The “best laid plan” is to turn the savior dark, so the villains can get their happy ending. Am I missing something? What is Cruella’s power?
Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Charming’s (Josh Dallas) flashback reveals the secret they have been keeping. They could easily be villains. It’s pretty bad. They are not the heroes we thought they were. But that’s what’s fun about this show, isn’t it? The villains have been victims and the heroes have made morally ambiguous choices, so everyone is likable. We actually feel for Malificent and her tragedy. Emma is floored by the revelation. It changes everything for her.
Whoa – There’s a Walt (Disney) reference, complete with that Disney music feeling.
I really love Hook and Emma’s relationship. I’m so glad they didn’t stretch that longer than they did. Hook feeling a little jealous of August is adorable.
They are skipping next week, but the week after promises the return of the Wicked Witch of the West and a visit back to Oz. She’s a lot of fun.
I think I want to get into Once Upon A Time‘s darker cousin, Grimm. What do you all think? Is it any good?
Once Upon A Time airs Sunday nights at 8pm on ABC.
