After months of speculation, the rumors have now been confirmed.
Cersei Lannister and her twin brother Ser Jaime Lannister are expecting!
Lord Commander of the Kingsguard and proud papa-to-be [again] Jaime confirmed the news via one of his social media accounts today, which is also the twins’ Nameday, and posted a photo of himself kissing his sister’s nude baby bump. See the photo here below!
Here’s how he captioned the photo on his Instagram page:
“Thank you EVERYONE for the Nameday wishes! This year, I’m getting the GREATEST GIFT EVER. CAN’T WAIT. #PrinceOrPrincess #YouNeverKnow #WeDontEvenKnow #WeAreTakingBets #WinOrDie #IncestIsBest”
Here’s the post (click through for larger version):
Jaime’s public declaration has sent a shockwave through the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, whose citizens have long presumed that Jaime had sired all three of Cersei’s children, who were all conceived while she was married to King Robert Baratheon, First of His Name, King of the Andals and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm. While the previous reigning royal family, the Targaryens, famously wed brothers and sisters for centuries to keep the bloodline pure, modern-day Westeroans frown upon sibling incest. (Procreating demon smoke babies, raping, and beheading are all still OK though.) It was the public accusation that Queen Cersei’s children were not fathered by King Robert — first put forth by Hand of the King Eddard Stark of Winterfell — that sparked the War of the Five Kings, the bloody battles waged for the Iron Throne after King Robert’s untimely death.
Cersei’s eldest son, the wicked King Joffrey who was blond of hair like his mother and “uncle,” took up the throne after Robert, but was poisoned to death during his wedding feast to Margaery Tyrell. Middle child, daughter Myrcella, aka “Jan,” was shipped off to Dorne for a future arranged marriage to Trystane Martell of House Martell. Youngest child Tommen, also blond of hair, ascended to the Iron Throne upon brother Joffrey’s demise, was quickly married to his brother’s widow, and was comforted by his pet cat, Ser Pounce.
Rumors about Cersei’s pregnancy arose after Varys’s network of spies spotted the Queen Regent strolling the royal gardens of the Red Keep in King’s Landing wearing an oversized frock a few months after her brother Jaime returned from captivity. Soon after, it became more and more difficult for Cersei to hide her growing baby bump.
Word is the new baby was conceived soon after Joffrey’s death; the incestuous royal siblings were alone together in the Great Sept of Baelor where Joffrey’s body was lying in state (but surely nothing happened during their time of mourning).
Interestingly, Jaime’s post to Instagram has since been deleted and there’s been no further comment from anyone in the Lannister family, although Cersei was reportedly overheard muttering about ashes in her mouth and something about what happens when you play the Game of Rhythm Method.
Although the Instagram post was deleted, the word is out there, and in a few months, they will be another fair-haired Lannister. With Cersei’s history, Jaime might want a paternity test (watch out, Lancel).
What do you think the new Lannister baby will be named? Sound off in the Comments!
