Let’s recap the “Best Laid Plans” from two weeks ago, before we get to Once Upon a Time 4.18 “Heart Of Gold”
The villains are all a twitter trying to find the author so he can rewrite “history” so they can have their happy ending instead of the heroes. In order to do that, they must darken savior Emma’s heart. After much too much effort trying to cover their tracks, Charming and Snow (Josh Dallas and Ginnifer Goodwin) finally tell Emma (Jennifer Morrison) what they did in order to ensure her goodness. They took Maleficent’s (Kristin Bauer van Straten) baby and allowed it to be sucked into a portal to another world. I know that means we will eventually run into Maleficent’s spawn, but I’m glad they didn’t outright kill a baby, even though they thought it was just a baby dragon (Khaleesi!). They did release the author who promptly fled.
Once Upon a Time 4.18 “Heart Of Gold” review: Everybody is searching for the author. But Gold finds him first. And then it’s a Robin of Locksley aka Robin Hood (Sean Macguire) centered episode. Gold has Regina magic-less and has her make a call to Robin to begin the flashback of when Robin and Gold first met. He had to steal a potion from the Wicked Witch of the West (the lovely Rebecca Mader) in Oz to save his tavern from the Sheriff of Nottingham. You see, nine weeks ago, Regina selflessly said goodbye to her true love and his wife and child, as they made their way to Neal’s old NYC apartment. Check out the clips below. Take particular note of Robin Hood jumping astride a horse from the carriages around Central Park to thwart a NYC mugger that had stolen Maid Marian’s purse. Swoon city, I presume!
They get to the place where they run into a very wounded Rumplestiltskin. Here is where there is a juicy surprise and all of the little pieces that did not make sense about the love triangle falls into place. “Heart Of Gold” indeed! We are left with one or two little unanswered questions, but who cares? Rebecca Mader is back on the show!
This show never fails to entertain with its constant dramatic intrigue. I do wonder though. Although it would make for a terribly boring episode, can’t they have just one happy day? You know… the kind of day where no one fights, and everyone loves each other, and they go on a picnic. Sometimes I’m just exhausted for them.
Once Upon A Time airs Sunday nights at 8pm ET on ABC.
