Previously on Outlander, Jaime (Sam Heughan) is hopeful the Duke of Sandringham (Simon Callow) can help clear his name, but Claire (Caitriona Balfe) knows from other husband Frank (Tobias Menzies) that the Duke is a secret friend of BlackJack Randall. She goes without Jaime’s knowledge to use that leverage. Claire finds a baby left for the “fairies” and mourns. Geillis (Lotte Verbeek) reveals she is having Dougal’s (Graham McTavish) baby. Good thing both their spouses “accidentally” died. Colum (Gary Lewis) squashes that love connection by banishing Dougal, sending Jaime to accompany him. Laoghaire (Nell Hudson) sets Claire up so she would be arrested for witchcraft along with Geillis.
Outlander 1.11 “The Devil’s Mark” review: It is time for the witch trial of Claire and Geillis, if you could call it that. Luckily, Ned Gowan interrupts the sham to try to give a semblance of a defense. No surprise that it does not work. We know enough of history to know that superstition supersedes facts when it comes to accusations of sorcery and witchcraft. Laoghaire testifies against Claire. I really hope she gets what’s coming to her. I’m kinda surprised that Colum didn’t send anyone to help Claire. She’s family – no matter what he thinks of her.
Father Bain comes in and commands a mesmerizing performance renouncing Claire and shouting about Satan.
Ned tells the girls there’s no way he can save both of them, but what he’s really saying Geillis has no shot, but Claire maybe. but only if she renounces Geillis. She won’t do it and poor Ned tries to be a hero. I love him. A giant ruckus erupts in the court, and Claire feels sting of a whip. And then her hero arrives. Sigh! Geillis turns out to be the real hero when she confesses and reveals her devil’s mark, after saying to Claire, “1968.” What?
By the way, my new crush is definitely Sam Heughan. He’s so heroic and adorable. Claire finally tells him the truth about her past um… future. How do you think Jaime reacts? How would you? The question is, after that witch trial, and now that Jaime knows…
Will she or won’t she go back through the stones?
This was another swoonworthy episode.
Outlander airs Saturday nights at 9pm ET on Starz.

Collum didn’t send help because he was the one to set it up. He sends Dougal away to get rid of Geillis and the baby and uses Leery to set up Claire. With Claire gone, he can continue with plans for Jamie to succeed him.

Highly recommend the book(s). Ron has taken great artistic leaps with the show but Diana fans will always love her best!
