Last week’s iZombie was really disgusting for Liv (Rose McIver). She had to eat old dead brain. I don’t mean old, as in age of person. I mean old, like left out of the fridge too long. The body was undiscovered for a while because the guy was a recluse. Worse – an internet trolling recluse. And it looked like an allergic reaction, so Liv was almost off the hook. But no. Turns out it was a cleverly concealed allergen delivered right to him. They never would have found that out if it weren’t for Liv’s “psychic” visions. Jackie can’t control her zombie-ness, so Blaine (David Anders) has to end her. Oh and scary! Liv’s mom might have gotten her baby brother a job at Blaine’s!

iZombie 1.7 “Maternity Liv” review: A pregnant girl stumbles onto a little campsite of some teenagers, and dies. Her baby is saved, but this girl had been missing for a while, before this tragic end. The douch-y boyfriend is blamed by her parents. It’s up to Liv to chow down and find out the cause! Eating that brain is stirring some giant maternal feelings in her. She worries about Ravi (Rahul Kohli) not eating, she ends up agreeing with her mother for the first time ever, and she is drawn to the baby born of that girl.

Clive (Malcolm Goodwin) is in trouble at work again. This case is getting a lot of attention, but the missing street kids non-case is not, and he accidentally leaks something about that to a reporter. Now he’s pushing papers on desk duty. This does give him a real lead though. His zombie boss looks at Liv in a knowing way. Uh-oh.

Major (Robert Buckley) can’t stop getting in trouble either. He stalks the Candyman, but ends up getting arrested. It doesn’t look good for him in the last scene in the jail cell. I’m afraid for him.

Liv thinks she’s being “friendzoned” by Lowell (Bradley James). Don’t worry Liv! He just ate a brain that prefers boyfriends to girlfriends. They end up having the best platonic time. Seriously… I smiled through the whole musical montage.

The only thing that I didn’t find believable about this episode (of this appealing zombie series), was when the douchebag teenage baby daddy of the dead girl called Liv “Beetlejuice.” It’s not that he is too young. It is that he is too narcissistic and young to be that cool to know about Beetlejuice. Yep. Zombie rats and young zombies in love, I can believe in. Jerks that know Beetlejuice – not.

Yeah – I said zombie rats. You have to watch to see.

iZombie airs Tuesdays at 9pm ET on The CW.

  1. I really really love Lowell and Liv’s on-screen interactions – they always seem very realistic and the two have natural chemistry and it plays so well…like when she goes to kiss him but he isn’t interested at all because he just ate a gay man’s brain. Also loved the montage when they got drunk and danced, played games and looked at photos it was put togther really well and I also liked that they used “Girl Is A Queen” by Splash! as the background music.
