A new full trailer has been released for Mr. Holmes, the upcoming Sherlock Holmes movie starring Lord of the Rings and X-Men star Ian McKellen as the legendary sleuth in his later years. A teaser trailer for the movie was released back in March and can be seen right here if you missed it.
The new trailer runs about a minute longer than the teaser and looks at Holmes dealing with his fame and also the young boy who ultimately comes to help him in revisiting an unsolved mystery from his past.
You can watch the new trailer below.
SYNOPSIS:
MR. HOLMES is a new twist on the world’s most famous detective. 1947, an aging Sherlock Holmes returns from a journey to Japan, where, in search of a rare plant with powerful restorative qualities, he has witnessed the devastation of nuclear warfare. Now, in his remote seaside farmhouse, Holmes faces the end of his days tending to his bees, with only the company of his housekeeper and her young son, Roger. Grappling with the diminishing powers of his mind, Holmes comes to rely upon the boy as he revisits the circumstances of the unsolved case that forced him into retirement, and searches for answers to the mysteries of life and love – before it’s too late.
In addition to McKellen, Mr. Holmes also stars Milo Parker (Ghosthunters: On Icy Trails, Robot Overlords) as the young boy Roger, Laura Linney (The Truman Show, Love Actually), Hattie Morahan (The Golden Compass, The Bank Job), Patrick Kennedy (War Horse, Boardwalk Empire), Hiroyuki Sanada (The Last Samurai, The Wolverine), Roger Allam (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, V for Vendetta), and Colin Starkey (Inspector Lewis) as Dr. John Watson.
The movie is directed by Oscar-winning Gods and Monsters, Kinsey, Dreamgirls, and the upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast director Bill Condon, and will be released on July 17th.
