The Strain comes back this summer on FX after a killer first season, and everything is out in the open now. The mantra of the season is “Fight or Die” and although things don’t look very good for humanity, there is some hope for our ragtag bunch. In anticipation of the show’s return, FX has blessed us with a brand new season 2 trailer. Based on that and how things ended last season, it’s sure to be an exciting, and gross, and scary, and sad, and bittersweet ride.

I do have a soft spot for The Strain as it was the first TV show I ever reviewed for GoD. That it was an ugly take on vampirism, based on Guillermo del Toro‘s book, got me interested in it even before it was assigned. I was already hurting when Corey Stoll was killed off House of Cards, and was really excited to see him take on this lead. Then, once Kevin Durand popped up, I was completely sold, as he does horror and humor particularly well, as if there’s a secret he’s keeping.
Last season’s theme was the outbreak and slow discovery of this vampiric disease. We only got glimpses of The Master until the very end. This summer, the battle lines are drawn, as Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll), Nora (Mia Maestro), Abraham (David Bradley), Vasiliy (Durand), Zack, Dutch (Ruta Gedmintas), and Gus (Miguel Gomez) struggle to fight for their humanity against The Master (Robin Atkin Downes), Eichhorst (Richard Sammel), and their minions. This season should get extra interesting, because we know the vampires evolve to become more human, after the animalistic transformation. Will Kelly (Natalie Brown) turn against The Master for her son? What happens to Bolivar (Jack Kesy)? Am I even remembering this right?
I think I have to binge season 1 before the premiere.
