The official trailer is out for the new Meryl Streep movie, Ricki And The Flash, about a woman who gave up her family to be a rock star, but now it’s time to go home and make things right.

Her real daughter, Mamie Gummer, plays daughter Julie in the movie. It looks like it works. Does anything that Meryl Streep is in, not work? It’s Meryl-freakin’-Streep! Pretty much every movie she touches, if not turning into actual gold, is made better by her presence. Her three Oscars and sixteen other Academy Award nominations can attest to that. Kevin Kline plays her ex-husband who in the trailer, calls her with the bad news that Julie’s husband has left her. Audra McDonald is the new wife who is clearly marking her territory (and rightly so) in the clip.

The best part about it (according to me) is Rick Springfield as her boyfriend and fellow bandmate, who dishes out wise words, like:

“It doesn’t matter if your kids love you or not. It’s not their job to love you. It’s your job to love them.”

God! He is still so handsome. They both look great. I hope I look half as good at 65.

Philadelphia and Silence of the Lambs diector, Jonathan Demme, helms the project, while Juno and Jennifer’s Body writer, Diablo Cody, pens the script.

Julie: “Mom, You’re here. It’s like the 80s all over again.”

It really is.
