Oakland metal megalith High On Fire has just given us the first glimpse of their highly anticipated seventh studio album with the release of the album’s first single over at RollingStone.com. The Track is titled “The Black Plot” and is proof positive that HOF are only sharpening their brutal aural assault with age. As per usual, the riff rules supreme for this power trio lead by guitarist/singer Matt Pike.
More below.
It’s been a busy year for Pike, who serves double duty as lead guitarist of stoner doom legends Sleep. Sleep has been touring at the same time that HOF has been tracking their new album with legendary producer Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou. But to listen to “The Black Plot” one wouldn’t know that Pike’s attention had been fixed anywhere other than on making the most killer High On Fire record possible.
The album which is titled Luminiferous releases worldwide via eOne Music on June 23rd. Let’s hope it’s all as killer as “The Black Plot.” In any event, expect a full review right here once I get a listen to the whole thing. Meanwhile crank it up and enjoy this killer slice of new High On Fire metal.
