CW’s mounting DC TV Universe success continues on. With shows like Arrow and The Flash bringing in new heroes and villains, it was only a matter of time before the Universe expanded with their own show. The network’s latest superhero property is Legends of Tomorrow, with a brand new trailer introducing all sorts of new heroes and villains from past and present. If you’ve been following both shows religiously, then you will notice the appearance of Caity Lotz, who will sort of reprise her character from Arrow, only under a different color.
Check out the first trailer for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow below.
Like most of these upfronts, these trailers are very long, and are usually a mash-up of the series’ first two or three episodes. The CW is confident that the show can hold its own, and has picked up Legends of Tomorrow for a full season.
Lotz’s return isn’t completely surprising. She was confirmed to come back a while ago, but the identity of her character had been kept a secret until now. She will play the White Canary – wonder what that is going to do to the Lance family dynamics. She had been killed early on in season three, but it appears that she went under the same restorative process by taking a dip in the Lazarus Pit. The very one that brought Thea back to life this season.
In the trailer we learn that the immortal Vandal Savage is the lead villain. Comic Book lore tells us that he is skilled in a millennia’s worth of war, history, and science. He is also highly intelligent and possesses superhuman strength. However, don’t expect to see him in this trailer as he only appears as a shadowy figure.
Legends of Tomorrow also brings in Brandon Routh, who will reprise his role as The Atom, Victor Garber who played the other half of Firestorm in The Flash, and Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell who will reprise Captain Cold and Heatwave respectively. Doctor Who‘s Arthur Darvill will play the time traveling rouge Rip Hunter, and Ciara Renée will play Hawkgirl.
When heroes alone are not enough”¦ the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat “” one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known? DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW stars Victor Garber (“The Flash,” “Alias”); Brandon Routh (“Arrow,” “Superman Returns”); Arthur Darvill (“Doctor Who”); Caity Lotz (“Arrow”); Ciarra Renee (“Pippin”); Franz Drameh (“Edge of Tomorrow”); with Dominic Purcell (“The Flash,” “Prison Break”); and Wentworth Miller (“The Flash,” “Prison Break”). This looks a bit cheesy but it looks like it could be FUN cheesy! I fully realize this could involve time travel and not parallel universes, but felt fun and cheesy in a way that “Sliders” did in it’s early seasons. Given the presence of Firestorm though, is Heatwave really necessary? He seemed a bit one dimensional on The Flash and hope he doesn’t drag this one down.
