Ex Machina Blu-ray Header Image

This week’s edition of Digital Wire Blu-ray Releases features new release announcements for several important upcoming home video releases, including a pair of acclaimed indie genre flicks, a raunchy comedy smash featuring two of the funniest actors working today, and a trio of high profile cult classics making their Blu-ray debut soon courtesy of Shout! Factory. We also have an update on this summer’s release of an extended cut of one of last year’s biggest blockbusters.

Below you’ll find info on several future home video releases complete with technical specs, release dates, and links to pre-order at Amazon, as well as a list of titles coming out this week.

We would greatly appreciate it if you use those links to order because a small percentage of each order helps keep this website running at max power. The cover art for certain titles has yet to be finalized.

Ex Machina

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has set a release date of July 14, 2015 for Alex Garland‘s critically-acclaimed sci-fi thriller Ex Machina, which stars Alicia Vikander and Star Wars: The Force Awakens cast mates Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac, on Blu-ray and DVD. Extra features have yet to be revealed, but once those details are made official we will update accordingly.

Maggie

On July 7, 2015, one week before Ex Machina debuts on home video, Lionsgate will also release the recent arthouse zombie horror feature Maggie, starring Oscar nominee Abigail Breslin and a surprisingly somber Arnold Schwarzenegger, on Blu-ray and DVD. The disc will be stocked with a few bonus features:

Making Maggie” Featurette
Deleted Scene
Cast & Crew Interviews
Audio Commentary with Director Henry Hobson

Get Hard

It might still be playing in theaters across the country, but that isn’t stopping Warner Bros. Home Entertainment from announcing a release date of June 30, 2015 for the recent Will Ferrell/Kevin Hart comedy hit Get Hard on Blu-ray and DVD. The feature directorial debut of screenwriter Etan Cohen (Idiocracy, Tropic Thunder), the Hard Blu will include many extras (one or more of which might make it onto the DVD):

Unrated Cut of the Film
Just Put Your Lips Together and Blow
Get Hard Line-O-Ramas
The Kevin Hart Workout
Face Off with Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart
Ferrell Fighting
A Date with John Mayer
Twerking 101

Hackers

Here’s a little item guaranteed to make those of us who came of age in the 1990’s feel extremely old: on August 18, 2015, Shout! Factory will release a 20th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray of the 1995 cult classic techno-thriller Hackers, starring Jonny Lee Miller (Elementary) and Angelina Jolie in one of her earliest leading roles. To date, there has been no word on extra features, but the good folks at Shout! don’t like to short change their fan base when it comes to supplements. We can expect to get more info as the release date approaches.

X-Men: Days of Future Past

Last week, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment announced that on July 14, 2015 they would be releasing the long-promised “Rogue Cut” of X-Men: Days of Future Past on Blu-ray. The extended cut reinstating Anna Paquin‘s full performance as Rogue would be joined by a host of new bonus features that have now be revealed:

Howling II

Joe Dante’s The Howling is justifiably praised as one of the greatest and scariest movies of the 1980’s and an exemplary entry in the werewolf horror genre. 1985’s belated follow-up Howling II is justifiably praised as one of the worst horror movies of all time, a goofy and downright inappropriate waste of celluloid that callously disregards everything great about the classic original. But it has a cult following and that’s why Shout! Factory will be releasing Howling II on Blu-ray through its Scream Factory imprint on July 14, 2015. Rabid bad movie fanatics are bound to rejoice. The Blu will come packed with new extras:

Audio Commentary with Director Philippe Mora
Audio Commentary with Composer Steve Parsons and Editor Charles Bornstein
Leading Man – An Interview with Actor Reb Brown
Queen of the Werewolves – An Interview with Actress Sybil Danning
A Monkey Phase – Interviews with Special Make-Up Effects Artists Steve Johnson and Scott Wheeler
Behind the Scenes Footage (in HD – from Philippe Mora’s archive)
Alternate Opening and Alternate Ending (in HD – from Philippe Mora’s archive)

Wait a minute – a new interview with Reb Brown? BIG MCLARGEHUGE!

Robot Jox

Before the Transformers quartet, before Pacific Rim, there was Robot Jox. On July 7, 2015, one week before Howling II, Scream Factory will also bring to Blu-ray the low-budget sci-fi cult classic from director Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator) about a future where world wars are fought by giant fighting robots piloted by human beings. Jox will make its debut in high-definition armed to the teeth with some tantalizing new special features:

Audio Commentary with Director Stuart Gordon
Audio Commentary with Associate Effects Director Paul Gentry, Mechanical Effects Artist Mark Rappaport, and Stop-Motion Animator Paul Jessel
Brand-New Interview with Actor Paul Koslo
Archival Interviews with Director Stuart Gordon, Pyrotechnic Supervisor Joe Viskocil, Associate Effects Director Paul Gentry, Stop-Motion Animator Paul Jessel and Animation & Effects Artists Chris Endicott and Mark McGee
