His dad is already playing the villainous DC mercenary Deadshot in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, and it looks like another Smith family member will be joining the DC Cinematic Universe.
The latest unconfirmed rumor says that Jaden Smith may be joining the DC Universe as Static Shock. More on the story below.
In an interview with Flicks and the City, The Walking Dead star Tyler James Williams said that “It was great to see Static Shock happening with Jaden [Smith].” Now this of course is a very unconfirmed rumor, with Warner Bros. yet to make any sort of announcement on the matter. So Williams may be talking about a previous rumor he may have heard or saw. But there was a rumor that goes as far back as last October when it was announced that WB would be producing a live-action digital series with Django Unchained producer Reginald Hudlin. One of the frontrunners to play the lead role in that was Jaden Smith.
Here’s a description of the character:
Virgil Hawkins was just like any normal high school teenager in the inner city. Caught in the middle of a turf war between two rival gangs, Virgil is accidentally exposed to a dangerous compound gas. The gas gave him the powers to control electromagnetism. He would don the superhero alias Static, and would fight other metahumans, people with superpowers like himself.
In 2000, Warner Bros. Animation released an animated series based on the hero called Static Shock. It would run for at least four years, and occasionally crossover with other DC animated shows like Justice League.
Below is a video of Williams commenting on Smith possibly playing as Static. WB has yet to announce a release date for the Static Shock digital series.
So what do you guys think? Is Jaden Smith right for the role or do you see someone else playing Static?
