“You think you want to know the truth, but you don’t. It’s worse than you can ever imagine.” Those are the last words of Sheriff Pope (Terrence Howard) before his body is snatched up by some unseen thing from the other side of the electrified fence. With all the craziness in the first three episodes, Wayward Pines went from Twilight Zone-style paranoia to full blown Lovecraftian monster horror. I literally have no clue where this show is heading, and I love it.
The reunited Burke family is trying to cope with what they have just witnessed. Ben is freaking out because of “those things from behind the wall.” Ethan (Matt Dillon) and Theresa (Shannyn Sossamon) determine that in order to survive, they must play the part of a happy family. This means Ben (Charlie Tahan) goes to school, and Ethan is the new sheriff. He quickly snoops around and finds dossiers on everyone in Wayward Pines, including where they are from and their former jobs.
His first job as Sheriff is dealing with a renegade realtor Peter McCall (Justin Kirk from Weeds). He was arrested for graffiti. “In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” That is the line spraypainted in red across the stores’ white walls. When Burke asks if he knows a way out, he points a finger to his head and pulls the “trigger.” The phone rings. We know the rules, you must always pick up the phone. A voice tells Burke that there must be a “Reckoning” for Peter tomorrow at 10:00pm.
Burke thinks that Mayor Fisher (Barclay Hope) could be swayed in his direction. Fisher warns him to be weary of his son because Wayward Pines goes after the children, and tries to brainwash them. His wife Megan (Hope Davis) just happens to be Ben’s new teacher, and wouldn’t you know it, she gives him just what he wants… a new guitar. Ben is also being courted by a pretty girl at school. It’s going to be hard for him to want to leave the Pines.
There’s a toast given by Nurse Pam (Melissa Leo) that’s interrupted by Ethan. It’s clear (and not much is) that she is fully united with the forces running Wayward Pines, and like Pope before, she will continue to be a creepy evil standing in the Burkes’ way. Peter points at a way out both for himself and for Ethan, and that leaves Theresa and Ben alone with Pam in control of Wayward Pines. And for the second straight week… WTF IS THAT AT THE END!?!?
Wayward Pines Episode 4, “One of Our Seniors Realtors Has Chosen To Retire,” premieres tonight at 9:00pm ET on FOX.

I too am loving this show, BUT, having been warned about the school, I would have talked to my son and explained to him to be careful – he is given no info other than to pretend to be happy, and is already being manipulated by the woman running the school.
