Ghostbusters: Get Real #1 rips the Ghostbusters from The Real Ghostbusters cartoon (NO MONKEY!), and smashes them with the… um… real Ghostbusters. By that, I mean the Ghostbusters from the movie Ghostbusters. Confused? You won’t be. Entertained? Let me tell you…

IDW Publishing & company give every Ghostbusters fan the crossover that we’ve ALWAYS wanted to see!!! The characters from The Real Ghostbusters cartoon come face to face with the movie Ghostbusters!!!! Writer Erik Burnham proves within 2 pages that he can not only write a solid, entertaining, Ghostbusters comic, he could also write a pretty fantastic Real Ghostbusters comic. He’s got those characters down pat. It’s not until you read this comic that you realize that while The Real Ghostbusters are based very well on the characters from the movie, there are more differences that you first thought. Add to all of this a REALLY great story to bring the two teams together, and you get this epic comic. Convergence? Forgotten. Secret Wars? Who cares! THIS is the crossover event of the summer, bar none!!

Artist Dan Schoening is out to prove me wrong. Every time I see him do something different, my thought is “Well, he can NEVER top this!” And then he goes ahead and tops it. Jerk. Schoening perfectly apes the style of DiC Entertainment animators when drawing The Real Ghostbusters and the characters from that universe, even creating new characters done perfectly in that style. Add to that his normal spectacular job he does on the “regular” Ghostbusters, and this book is a real treat for your eyes. This is some seriously gorgeous art here, kids, and what he does here is a first. Normally, there would be two different artists each drawing in one style, and they would combine their work on the pages and you’d have a fine, but slightly weird looking comic. Schoening is so talented that an additional artist is not needed, and the result is a book that you’ll be looking at a few extra times just for the art.

OK, this is the book that you’re going to want to read first this week. None of this “saving the best for last.” We all know that you never get around to those books. Read it in the comic store parking lot, on the train, bus, boat, sidewalk, or whatever kind of transportation that you take home from the comic store! This is one of those rare books that I see myself reading MULTIPLE times before the next issue comes out. I promise you. You will LOVE this comic!!!!

  1. Until I heard about this on an episode of Most Craved, I had no idea that this was even out. Its been awhile since its been out. But I am hoping that my local store that carries comics has back issues I can search for.
