The Uncharted movie continues to travel a rather bumpy road after numerous writers, directors, and rumored stars have been attached and detached and replaced on the project.

Last July Sony pushed back The Amazing Spider-Man 3 two years from 2016 to 2018 (before that who reboot was scrapped for the new re-reboot tag team effort with Marvel), and moved the movie based on Naughty Dog’s hit video game series Uncharted into Spidey’s June 2016 slot.

Now comes word that Sony has moved the Uncharted movie back yet again, this time bumping it back an entire year to June 30, 2017.

Last we heard, Academy Award winning writer Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) was hired to pen the latest draft. It was once said that Naughty Dog wanted This Is the End, Pineapple Express, and The Interview team of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to write the script, but they’ve been quite busy, including working on AMC’s upcoming adaptation of the comic book Preacher.

King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, Horrible Bosses, and Identity Thief director Seth Gordon was once attached to direct, but he was recently reported to be working on a movie adaptation of Baywatch starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, so it’s not currently clear whether or not he’s still going to direct Uncharted or not.

The Uncharted games follow Nathan Drake, a modern-day treasure hunter and descendent of explorer Sir Francis Drake, his sidekick and mentor Victor Sullivan “Sully,” and journalist Elena Fisher as they seek legendary treasures around the world and get into lots and lots and lots of trouble.
