Back in March Broken Lizard, the group behind movies like Super Troopers, Club Dread, and Beerfest, launched an Indiegogo campaign for the long-awaited Super Troopers 2 with hopes of making the movie this past summer if the campaign was a success.
Well, here’s a quick update for you fans of the original excited about a sequel. The campaign was a massive success, easily reaching and surpassing its $2 million goal and soaring past $4 million by the time it was all said and done, but filming didn’t happen quite as soon as originally hoped. Instead of making the movie this past summer things got pushed back a bit to this fall, and now—almost 15 YEARS since the original was first released—filming has officially begun on the sequel.
The first day of filming was confirmed on social media by the Broken Lizard gents including Erik Stolhanske and Steve Lemme, complete with pictures. Here’s what they shared:
Now the big question is whether Brian Cox will be returning as Captain O’Hagan or not. The biggest stretch goal for the Indiegogo campaign was $5 million, and if reached it would guarantee the return of Mr. Cox, who even took the time to record a video for the push to $5 million.
In the end they reached a little over $4.5 million, which is still very impressive and a crystal clear confirmation of how badly fans wanted to see this sequel made, but were also a bit behind the stretch goal required to guarantee more Captain O’Hagan. It’s hard to believe that they’ll make the movie without him just because they were a few bucks off, especially with him making the above-linked video and the fact that it was he who contacted Broken Lizard about starring in the original, but time will tell for sure if he was able to join the fun.
